People’s Artist of Ukraine Anatolii Kapustin passed away

Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre with great sorrow announce the death of People’s Artist of Ukraine, tenor Anatolii Kapustin.

He graduated from Odessa Conservatory (now National Music Academy) named after Antonina Nezhdanova in the class of a teacher Zinaida Tarasova-Dobrodieieva. He worked at Odessa Ukrainian Musical Drama Theatre and Odessa Theatre of Musical Comedy. The singer was invited to the troupe of Odessa Opera House in 1974. He taught at National Music Academy named after Antonina Nezhdanova.

Anatolii Kapustin was a laureate of the international festival of spiritual music in Marseille (France), a participant in the international festival in Edinburgh (Scotland) and the international festival of opera art "Golden Crown" in Odessa.

He performed the parts of Herman, Vaudemont and King (the operas “The Queen of Spades”, “Iolanta” and “The Orleans Maiden” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky), Manrico, Radames, Richard and Otello (the operas “Il Trovatore”, “Aida”, “Un ballo in maschera” and “Otello” by Giuseppe Verdi), Pinkerton and Cavaradossi (operas “Madama Butterfly” and “Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini), Canio (the opera “Pagliacci” by Leoncavallo), Jose (the opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet), Andrey (the opera Katerina by Mykola Arkas), Turiddu (opera "Cavalleria rusticana" by Mascagni), Petro (opera "Natalka Poltavka" by Mykola Lysenko) and others.

He toured in Japan, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland, Belgium, Greece, Spain, Lebanon.

The singer was awarded the Order of Merit, III degree.

Last respects for Anatolii Kapustin will be held at the theatre on February 25 from 10:00 to 11:30.
