The performance "Tosca” on August 25 is dedicated to the memory of Yarema Skibinskyi

The performance "Tosca", which will be held on Sunday on August 25, is dedicated to the memory of the ex-chief conductor of Odessa Opera House Yarema Skibinskyi.

Yarema Skibinskyi was born in the city Stryi, Lviv region, in 1949. He graduated from Opera and Symphony Department of Lviv Conservatory, worked in Lviv, Moscow and Kharkiv. He was the chief conductor of Odessa Opera House from 1995 to 2009. People's Artist of Ukraine died on January 28, 2009; he was sixty years old. The musician was buried in Stryi.

“Yarema Skibinskyi is a conductor by the grace of God. In this complex art he is, perhaps, a unique personality. Sitting calmly at the head of the orchestra, he imperiously subordinates it to himself, doing all instrumental miracles. Not a single extra movement of the head or the left hand, that seems to be “silent” [...] But the right hand of the conductor Yarema Skibinsky with a classically beautiful movement, like the flap of a white swan’s wing, determines the rhythm and strength of the musical field of the opera, which obeys the maestro,” wrote theatre critic Olena Marhina.
