The Odessa Opera is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Odessa Ballet Company

On Wednesday, November 27, The Odessa Opera starts celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Odessa Ballet Company. 

The Photo Show The Odessa Ballet: The Past and The Present opens in the English Foyer at 3 pm on November 27. The exposition consists of more than 100 photographs both from the theatre archives and taken by the masters of the contemporary photography, namely works by Oleg Vladimirsky, Yuri Litvinenko, Cyril Stoyanov, Nikolai Vdovenko and Tatiana Strelnikova.

Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus in the choreographer’s cut by Yuri Vasyuchenko, Honoured Artist of Russia, is on stage on Wednesday, November 27. Don Quixote was at first presented to the Odessa audience in 1933 and the premiere of the current production took place in November 2012.

On Thursday, November 28, the audience has an opportunity to enjoy the ballet The Mystery of the Vienna Wood to the music by Gustav Mahler and Johannes Strauss and with libretto by Yuri Vasyuchenko, Honoured Artist of Russia (the premiere took place in December, 2011).

On Saturday, November 30, the ever green The Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky is on stage and THE CONCERT GALA made of both classical and contemporary choreography numbers crowns up the celebration of the 90th Odessa Ballet Company Anniversary.

All ballet shows start at 6:30 pm.

The history of the Odessa Ballet Company dates back to 1923 when the first performance given by the local ballet company was on stage. It was The Swam Lake by Pyotr Tchaikovsky in the choreographer’s cut of R. Balanotti and under direction of Maestro M.Kramer.
